After joining from Arsenal in July 1965, Colin Clarke went on to become one of United’s greatest centre-backs. A tough, no-nonsense defender, Clarke was an ever-present when United won Division Three in 1968. He also shone in the higher tier, forging a formidable partnership with Dave Roberts. In 12 years at the club, Clarke notched up almost 500 appearances before moving to Los Angeles Aztecs.
