'Faz' made his name as a player for Blackburn Rovers, where he made a club-record 671 appearances over 18 years. He later played for York City, Bury and Finnish side Kumu, where he was player/manager.
He moved to Newcastle United as first-team coach, working with Jim Smith, Ossie Ardiles and Kevin Keegan, with whom he was England's assistant manager. He also coached at Blackburn, Bolton, Grimsby, Huddersfield and Leicester City before joining Birmingham.
He joined Oxford on 21st July 2014 as Michael Appleton's assistant.
