After establishing his reputation as a goalscorer in non-league, Wes joined Dagenham & Redbridge in 2008. In July 2010 he moved to Cheltenham Town, scoring on his debut and ending the season as top scorer, with 19 goals. He left for Crawley but in September 2011 joined Bournemouth on loan, the deal becoming permanent in January 2012.

Wes later had loans at Portsmouth and Blackpool, both under Michael Appleton, before joining Birmingham City on loan in January 2013 until the end of the season. He moved to Rotherham in January 2014 and scored six goals as the club won promotion to the Championship, returning to Birmingham on a permanent deal in June 2014. He had loans with Swindon Town and Bradford City before signing for Oxford United in June 2016.

After scoring on his United debut in the first game of the season against Chesterfield, Wes was injured in October 2016, missing the remainder of the season.
