Local lad Matty was in the youth and academy sides at the U’s going on to make seven senior appearances before moving on to Didcot Town and North Leigh. He then moved up the leagues and made his name at Forest Green Rovers, from where he got his chance at Bristol Rovers. His goals helped the Pirates regain their Football League place and he remained a key part of the side as they won promotion to League 1. After yet another hat-trick, this time against MK Dons, he completed a move across Bristol to join City in 2017. He returned to Oxford on 19th August 2019 on loan from Bristol City for the 2019/20 season, at the end of which he joined Oxford on a three-year contract.
