A tough-tackling defensive midfielder, Alex joined United from Motherwell on a two-year deal in the summer of 2019. After playing for Sunderland as a youth, he signed for A-League side Wellington Phoenix in 2014. In 2017 he moved to Portugal to play for Boavista and the following year he had a brief spell with Romanian side Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe before signing for Motherwell.
