Oxford United... 0
Norwich City... 3
(Toure 1, 19, 47)
Oxford United were beaten 3-0 by Norwich City at the Kassam Stadium as the visitors made a fast start and punished defensive lapses with clinical finishing.
The U’s fell behind inside the opening minute when a long ball from goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw was not dealt with, allowing Mohamed Toure to race through and finish into an empty net. The early goal gave Norwich confidence and they controlled much of the opening period.
Norwich doubled their lead on 19 minutes as Ben Chrisene found space down the left and delivered into the box, where Toure converted from close range. Oxford struggled to create clear chances in the first half and went into the break two goals down.
Toure completed his hat-trick early in the second half, driving the ball across Jamie Cumming and into the bottom corner after being played in down the right.
The U’s continued to work hard and pushed forward in the closing stages, with appeals for a penalty waved away after Jin Woo Jeon went to ground inside the area with just over ten minutes remaining.
The result leaves Oxford United 23rd in the Championship table, four points from safety with 14 games left to play, as attention now turns to the FA Cup on Sunday against Sunderland.
