Oxford United were knocked out of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup last night at the hands of Oxford City in a 3-2 defeat.

Goals from Gatlin O’Donkor and Jack Lee weren’t enough to keep United in the competition, with Oxford City turning the game on its head by scoring two goals in the last minute of injury time to complete their comeback.

A young side took on Oxford City, with O’Donkor leading the line alongside Lee.

The visitors opted for a stronger starting eleven, consisting mainly of their first team squad.

It was United who created the first chance of the game, Lee forcing an important early save from the Oxford City goalkeeper.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Josh Parker. A composed first touch and well taken finish gave Monty no chance and made it 1-0.

It took only ten minutes for United to produce the equaliser. A well-timed pass from Lee put O’Donkor through who’s strike was too much for the City goalkeeper.

Kasway Burton and Lee continued to test the Oxford City defence with some sharp linkup play, however this time Jack failed to really test the keeper.

Changes were made from both sides at the break, with United changing their shape to a lone striker in Lee up front.

The number nine was then handed the perfect opportunity after Burton won his side a penalty in the 52nd minute. Lee stepped up to the spot and sent the keeper the wrong way and put United ahead.

United looked as if they were coasting through to the next round, however fell to the hands of some unbelievable late drama.

City drew level in the 6th minute of injury time through Brayden Daniel, meaning that penalties were now on the horizon.

The home side made sure penalties were not necessary however and scored a second injury time goal to break the Young U’s hearts.

Jack Bearne’s last minute winner completed the comeback and sent Oxford City into the next round right at the death.
