Can We Talk?

Remote Stream

On this page, you’ll find trusted resources and advice from Baton of Hope and other leading organisations — whether you need help, want to help others, or simply want to understand more.

At Oxford United, we believe mental health matters just as much as physical health. No one should ever feel alone in facing life’s toughest moments.

That's why, in 2024, Oxford United launched Can We Talk?, a campaign supported by Baton of Hope, to break the silence around mental health and challenge the stigma surrounding suicide.

Help is out there. Whether you’re struggling, worried about someone else, or simply want to know more, support is always available.

  • Samaritans are available 24/7, 365 days a year. Call 116 123 for free.

Let’s keep the conversation going.
Let’s talk.

Oxford United Launches Schools’ Mental Health Initiative

As part of the Can We Talk? campaign, Oxford United are launching suicide prevention workshops in Oxfordshire schools, led by Men’s Team player Will Vaulks, in partnership with NHS Oxfordshire.

Coinciding with World Mental Health Day 2025, the Club also released a powerful new video highlighting the devastating impact of suicide, with one life lost in the time it takes to play a football match.

Over the next year, the campaign will:

  • Deliver suicide prevention workshops for schools, led by Will Vaulks
  • Host supporter workshops and a dedicated mental health section on the Club website
  • Become the first EFL Club to trial a life-changing suicide prevention check-up app
  • Improve internal mental health and suicide prevention awareness and communication
  • Deliver a designated Can We Talk? match day against Derby County on 18 October
  • Continue collaboration with the EFL, PFA, and Baton of Hope to develop a suicide prevention action plan for football

Notice A Change?

Notice a Change in a Colleague?
Sometimes, we recognise signs of poor mental health in others before they see it in themselves. It's important that we all stay aware and look out for one another.

Be Kind. Ask Twice.
A simple check-in can make a big difference — and asking again shows you truly care.
