Women Ready For Title Decider In Ipswich

U’s travel to East Anglia on the brink of glory

5 May 2023

Oxford United Women travel to Ipswich Town Women on Sunday the 7th of May knowing that a win would see them crowned Champions of the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

Kick off is at 2PM at the AGL Arena and tickets can be bought online HERE or on the gate on the day.

It’s all to play for on the final day, as Oxford, Ipswich and Watford could all clinch the title across the last 90 minutes; Watford kick off away at Billericay at the same time.

The U’s have had a superb season, only losing twice all year and going unbeaten at Court Place Farm for another campaign.

A supporter’s coach is leaving the Kassam Stadium at 9:45AM on Sunday morning. Email gsims@oufc.co.uk to book your spot to come and support the U’s in a massive fixture.

Manager Liam Gilbert told us

“It was great to be a part of the Awards on Sunday night after our last home game to take a minute and step back and appreciate a season unbeaten at home but apart from that we haven’t had much down time.

“We said when we spoke after the Watford game, in those situations you learn a lot about a group; where you can push them more, you see different sides to them.

“That’s been really powerful and the way the girls have taken ownership for a lot of that and going into last Sunday we knew we didn’t really need to push or motivate them; they’d done it themselves.

“The way the squad has developed and evolved as the year’s gone on, the group has grown and built, but the culture has always been fantastic and that’s one thing we can be really proud of. The standards as well that we’ve set going into pre season and that the girls have maintained has been brilliant.

“Sunday is just another game of football. We’re in a fantastic position and a brilliant place and however it plays out we know we’ll give our best.

“I know that every single player we put across that white line will run their socks off for the team and if it’s our day then we fully deserve it, if it’s not to be then it’s not to be.

“I have full belief in this group of players and staff, more than I ever have. Especially with what they’ve overcome and what they’ve achieved. We’ve only lost twice all year, what a season.
