LAST WORD Taome Oliver On Women Going Top

Reaction as Women beat MK Dons

15 March 2023

Oxford United Women cruised to the top of the Southern Premier Division at Court Place Farm last night, beating MK Dons 4-1.

Carly Johns scored her 18th and 19th of the season early in the first half, before the U’s put the game to bed through Taome Oliver and Tash Stephens just after the hour mark.

It was another exceptional team performance that meant United leapfrogged both Ipswich and Portsmouth to go a point clear with a game in hand at the summit of the table.

The U's also recorded their second highest attendance of the season, 343 fans came along to watch under the lights as the Yellows supported Her Game Too.

Oliver, who scored her first goal of the season in her third spell at United, has had an excellent spell in the side

“It’s great to be here and support the team, we want to win every game and it’s great to get my goal but even better that the team has scored four.

“I think we got our goals, first half and second half, at the perfect time. It was a really intense game, they came at us and it was quite physical. Getting those goals calmed the team down and allowed us to relax on the ball and play our football.

“It just adds to the confidence and momentum because they’re a really good side so credit to them, but it just gives us even more buzz around the camp when there are games where you’re under the cosh a little but still score four goals.

“Credit to everyone on the pitch because we scored some class goals and to those who were surrounding the play and came off the bench.

The U’s now have a huge game against promotion challengers Watford away from home this Sunday.

“We’re really up for the game at Watford, at this point in the season every game is massive and we’ll take them as they come and treat every one the same, but we are really excited for it,” added Oliver.

“Every single person in the team is in it for the long run and every single person makes a massive impact, on the training ground and on the pitch, it’s a really great atmosphere and all of us are just really gunning for it now.”
