Oxford United’s highly promising young defender James Golding has a double celebration today.
The versatile defender is not just celebrating being called up for the Republic of Ireland under 19 squad but has also agreed a new deal with the club who have taken up the option of extending his deal by another year.
James told us
“I’m really happy about the new deal. I have felt at home ever since I first signed here as a scholar and it’s great to know that the new Gaffer and the club have that faith in me. It has been a little frustrating not to play more this season, a couple of injuries haven’t helped but I’m back in training and feeling good.
“It’s always nice to get away with Ireland, I enjoy that and it’s fantastic experience so I’m looking forward to that
“The new deal means I get the chance to finish this season strongly then do what I always do: work hard, keep striving to improve and then come back in pre-season ready to really kick on”.
James has been selected for the Republic of Ireland U19 squad for their forthcoming UEFA U19 Championship games at home to Slovakia, Estonia and Greece on March 22nd, 25th and 28th.
