Women Travel To Billericay

United Women look to return to winning ways against Billericay Town on Sunday

9 February 2023

Oxford United Women travel to Billericay Town Women this Sunday, the 12th of February, in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division. Kick off is at 2PM at New Lodge.

Despite a decent performance, the U’s suffered their first defeat of the League campaign last weekend, losing 2-1 to Cheltenham.

Now, they immediately have the chance to put that right in the League, as they face fifth placed Billericay Town this weekend.

Tickets are available online HERE or on the gate (card only).

Billericay frustrated the U’s at Court Place Farm in September, taking the first points of the season off the Yellows in a 1-1 draw, but have lost their last two games, conceding ten goals.

Vice-Captain Riva Casley is keen to make amends for the result last weekend

“We know that on the day Cheltenham were maybe the better team and we didn’t put our chances away. It was a painful one, but we’ve got time to rebuild and we’ve got games to come back from it. This has given us a bit of a boost that we needed.

“We’ve got time this week to put it right, if we dwell on these losses then we are accepting defeat. We’re not doing that, we’re still sat in a good position, we’ve still got one of the best defensive records and we’ve got the rest of the season to go.

“I’ve travelled to Billericay before and it’s a fantastic facility with a great pitch. They’re very very tough to play against away and we know what they’re like - they’re scrappy and they like a battle. We’ve got to be ready for that and make sure we’re not shying away from tackles and not letting them play with the ball like maybe we did with Cheltenham on the weekend.

“We know we are better than that and we know we can take the game to them this weekend so it’s about putting that into practice and taking ourselves forward.

Manager Liam Gilbert told us

“Billericay are a tough side to play against. The squad have been excellent and really taken responsibility themselves for last weekend so we know that they are extremely eager to put that right. We’re still in a strong position and we have to make sure that Sunday was just a blip.
