PREVIEW Liam Manning Looks Ahead to Barnsley

U's Boss gets set for Oakwell test

20 April 2023

Oxford United head for Barnsley on Saturday looking to build on recent performances which have seen them draw five of the six games since Liam Manning took over.

The promotion-chasing Tykes will be tough opposition, but as Liam told iFollow earlier, his United side love to prove people wrong.

“We won’t have any easy games from now on in” he said. “What we have shown is that we relish those games right now and we will stand up and fight. I thought we did a terrific job of that against Portsmouth on Tuesday so Saturday is one the players should be looking forward to as well. It will be a great challenge for us.

“I thought the support on Tuesday gave us good energy and created a positive atmosphere, which we are going to need for all of these four games. The players stepped up the other night and earned that support from the fans and we have to do that away from home as well.

“We will have a good away following who we know will get behind us like they have done so far on the road.

“Barnsley are in a battle themselves and they know that in this division anyone can beat anyone if you don’t turn up and get everything right. They will know we have been playing well but both teams will need to be on it and have the right mindset.

“Externally the expectation will be Barnsley to win; they are the favourites and if you look at the table or the recent form then everything suggests that. But the beauty of football is that ‘underdog mentality’ and being up for a fight to prove people wrong. That’s what we have to embrace and have to relish on Saturday.”
