REACTION Women vs Chesham

U’s on fire as they hit Chesham United for 6.

14 November 2022

Oxford United Women progressed to the next round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup with a 6-1 win over Chesham United Ladies.

The cup win made it four wins in a row for the U’s and means they remain unbeaten in all competitions this season.

They now face a long journey to Cornwall in the next round having been drawn away at Liskeard Athletic Women, which will be played on Sunday the 27th of November.

There were first goals galore yesterday; new signing Iesha Swaby scored her first goal in Yellow, Development Squad Captain Sammy Wynne scored her first senior goal, and Lily Stevens bagged her first of the season for United.

“It feels good to finally get off the mark, it was a great finish but now we look ahead to the next game and keep moving. We work on the final third a lot in training which I love and its great to see the pictures coming out. The games are coming thick and fast, so we just need to take the time to recover” said Swaby.

United conceded a shock goal in the fourth minute but reacted strongly and went on to win comfortably. Manager Liam Gilbert was delighted with his team’s response.

“I thought we were very good. Obviously, it wasn’t the start that we wanted but was something that in the grand scheme of things was good for us. It’s the second time we’ve gone behind all season and the way they reacted was brilliant. It was nice for us to be a bit more clinical than we have been in the last few weeks.”

“It’s great for Iesha to get up and running and for Sammy it’s been a long time coming. She’s been so patient over the last few years at the club and was in the right place at the right time.”

Now, United look ahead to a midweek away game against MK Dons Women in the Southern Premier Division.

“It’s a big game; they’re a very well organised team and they’ll be up for it. We lost to them away last season and it’s something we’ll be aware of. They’ve had a good run of form and we’ll be expecting a tough game. The squad will have to travel after work on a Wednesday and that is always a factor in those midweek games” added Gilbert.

The game will be played at Stadium MK, kick off is at 7:45 PM
