Eastwood Returns as Woodburn Stays Until End of Season

The good news keeps coming at Oxford United

9 January 2020

As well as four new faces there are a couple of very familiar ones back at Oxford United with keeper Simon Eastwood ready to return against Rotherham on Saturday and Ben Woodburn back with the U’s as he recovers from injury.

Eastwood has been out of action for six weeks with a knee injury but has trained all week and will be back to face the Millers this weekend at the Kassam Stadium.

“It’s six weeks on the day of Rotherham” he told iFollow today “When I first did it they said the recovery time was going to be six to eight weeks so that was pretty much spot on. The original injury turned out to be worse than we thought but looking back if I can play to the end of the season then I will only have missed six league games and that’s not the end of the world.

“It’s not been that bad because the team has been winning, playing well and so it is great to come back in to training and hopefully playing and come back into a team that is doing really well still.”

On loan Liverpool forward Woodburn was just as pleased to be back as he steps up his recovery, confirming that he will stay at Oxford until the end of the season, as planned, and hoping to be involved in a few weeks' time.

“It was great to walk back into the building today” he says in this week’s Preview Show in iFollow. “I was close to being fit after the original injury and then damaged a bone in my other foot, which was terrible timing. I’m still a few weeks off but I’m progressing all the time and if all goes to plan then I’ll be back for the run in. The lads are in a fantastic position and the new faces this week have made a strong squad even stronger so I can’t wait to get back out there and join training again.”
