Free Entry For Women’s County Cup Semi Final

Development Squad to face Oxford City Women at Court Place Farm

17 February 2023

Oxford United Women’s Development Squad will take centre stage this weekend, as they face Oxford City Women in the Oxfordshire County Cup Semi Final.

Kick off is at 1:30 PM on Sunday the 19th of February at Court Place Farm and entrance is free for everyone.

The Development Squad have been flying, top of their league and into the Semi Final of both the County Cup and the FAWNL Reserve Cup.

It’ll be the Court Place Farm Derby; although United are the home side, both teams play their home games in OX3.

Manager George Anthony told us

“We’ve been getting on really well, the past few games have been challenging for us in different ways which has given us things to look at and work on in training which we’ve put into practice well.

“Cup games always bring a different challenge and it’s a semi final so it’s really exciting to be involved in that kind of one off game. It’s not often you have a game when no one really has home advantage, so I think it’ll be an exciting game.

“Hopefully, there’ll be lots of fans from both sides and we can’t wait. The more we can advertise the level of football that we have here in the county the better.

“We’ve played City a few times last year but they will have changed and developed since we’ve last played them so it’ll be a challenge for us, and something that we’ll prepare for just as we would any other game.

Women Through to County Cup Final

U's beat Oxford City 6-0 at Court Place Farm this afternoon

19 February 2023

Oxford United Women's Development Squad beat Oxford City Women 6-0 at Court Place Farm this afternoon to progress to the County Cup Final.

It was a unique game, in that both sides were playing at their home ground, and with free entry plenty came down from either side to watch the two Oxfordshire outfits battle it out in the winter sunshine.

It was United, however, that won the Clash for Court Place Farm.

The Yellows took the lead within two minutes, as City keeper Nicole Spittle could only parry an Anais Harris-Beecher cross-come-shot, and Oana Negrea volleyed home at the back post.

Chez Williams doubled the advantage in the 13th minute, capitalising on a City mistake as they tried to play out from the back. Negrea nicked the ball and Williams span and struck home for two.

United then scored a quickfire third and fourth, Lois Joslyn’s cross looping into the back of the net in the 26th minute before Lauren Haynes put it on a plate for Negrea to get her second of the day two minutes later.

Jasmine Allen made a fantastic goal line clearance on the stroke of half time and the U’s went into the break four goals ahead.

Holly Sellwood nearly scored an exceptional goal seconds after half time, scooping the ball over the City keeper but bouncing onto the bar.

On the hour mark Negrea completed her hattrick, converting from inside the box to make it five for United.

City defended spiritedly and did well to prevent the home side (confusing, I know) from scoring more, but ultimately the gulf in class showed.

Negrea smashed home her fourth off the day from close range with five to go, and United's Development Squad cruised into the County Cup Final.

LINEUP: Crierie, Gray, Sherwood, Flynn, Joslyn, Haynes, Richardson, Sellwood, Negrea, Williams, Harris-Beechers
