Young U’s Face Newport Away

U18s travel to Wales on Saturday

10 November 2023

Oxford United U18s travel to Newport County U18s on Saturday 11th of November in the EFL Youth Alliance League.

Kick off is at 11AM at USW sports park, CF37 5UP.

After a 2-1 defeat to Cheltenham Town last weekend, the young U’s will look earn an important victory against the Welsh side who sit on the same number of points as them in the South West Division.

Coach Pablo Haysham said

“We need to bounce back after a disappointing result last time out at Cheltenham. It’ll be a tough test after a long travel and the boys will have to be socially and physically all in to get a result.

“It’s important to get a result not just for the league table but for confidence and momentum heading into the second round of the FA Youth Cup next Friday.

Kasway Burton scored a hat-trick with Leo Snowden, fresh off the back of becoming United’s youngest ever player, also got on the scoresheet.

The win gives the U’s a big boost heading into Friday night when the young U’s take on Sutton United at Court Place Farm in the second round of the Youth Cup.

Coach Pablo Haysham said

“It was a good win and the boys did really well to grind out the result. We need to take the momentum into Sutton United on Friday.

“Kasway was excellent and it was great for Leo to get a goal to round off a good week for him personally, and the win will help us to keep looking up the table.

“We’ve played against them before and they’re always physical games so the boys will need to be together to get through to the next round.
