PREVIEW Oxford United U18 v Brentford U18

Young U's take on the Bees

16 September 2022

Oxford United’s Under 18s return to action on Saturday morning when they take on Brentford in the League Cup.

The game was postponed last week as football took a break to pay its respects to the Queen, but the U’s go back in to action against a strong Brentford side at the Bangkok Glass Training Centre (11am).

Coach Pablo Haysham told us;

“It will be a good test for us. Brentford are a good set up so let’s see how we match up. We have a couple of injuries to consider and some of the under 16s have stepped up recently with Gatlin O’Donkor and Josh Johnson around the first team squad, but that’s been great experience for everyone."

We'll have a report and reaction to follow.

Owens hat-trick as U's beat the Bees

18 September 2022

Oxford United under 18s enjoyed an excellent performance on Saturday morning with a 4-1 win over Brentford in the League Cup.

Will Owens was the hero with a hat-trick, with skipper Josh Johnson also on the scoresheet in a performance that had Coach Chris Hackett full of praise:

“Credit where it’s due, I thought the lads were terrific, particularly in the first half when we got ourselves four goals in front. Brentford came at us in the second half, as we knew they would, but we defended well when we needed to and showed a bit of grit.

“Will has been out on loan at Banbury but they are going so well at the moment that he has had limited time so he came back to us and showed what a good player he is with his three goals, but it was a strong performance from everyone involved.

“We had two of our under 16s involved, we were without Gatlin O’Donkor who was with the First Team, so it was a very young group but we took the game to Brentford, we worked really hard and we got our rewards.”
