Oxford United Under-21s returned to league action with a 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers.
A Josh Holton strike and a own goal were enough to beat Bolton despite the tough conditions in the North-West.
The Under-21s made their long-awaited return to league football, with their last game being back in November last year.
The squad included returns from injury for both Monty Marriott and Richard McIntyre, both going straight into the starting eleven.
Bolton got us underway in far from ideal conditions with temperatures reaching the negatives and extreme wind conditions affecting proceedings.
It took only 20 minutes for the opener, which came from Holton. A scrappy goal gave United the lead, with Josh being able to get a deft touch to bundle the ball over the line.
Bolton came out flying in the second half, using the wind to their advantage and drawing level in the 53rd minute.
Oxford replied instantly, regaining their lead just a minute later. A dangerous ball across the box from Kasway Burton led to a deflection off the defender that left the keeper stranded.
Bolton pushed to get level again, however a resilient Oxford defence kept the hosts out and maintained their lead.
A red card in the 70th minute left Bolton in deeper trouble, making it easier for United to hold on and pick up all three points.
The win marks a fifth game unbeaten in the Central League, heading into the Oxfordshire Senior Cup game at Oxford City next week.
