Oxford United Under-18s fell to a 4-1 defeat this weekend in Luton to end their unbeaten run.
Oxford went behind early and found themselves 2-0 down in the first 13 minutes, however this time they could not pull of the same comeback that they achieved the week before and Luton continued their dominance to pick up three points in a 4-1 win.
The sides had already met this season in the PDL Cup, where Luton won dominantly 3-0. Oxford were out to seek revenge on the Hatters, although like last time, Luton took an early lead.
It took just five minutes for Luton to get ahead, scoring their first out of two set piece goals.
The hosts then doubled their lead just eight minutes later with a well worked goal and suddenly were 2-0 up in no time.
Luton dominated the rest of the half and Oxford struggled to get any good spells on the ball.
The U’s came out in the second half with a much better approach, creating two notable chances in the first four minutes, however neither came to anything.
Despite starting the second half on the front foot, it was Luton who got their third to rub salt into the wounds for the Young U’s.
The Hatters then made it four in the 65th minute, scoring directly from a freekick this time.
Mo Missanga continued to shine as one of the few positives from the game and was causing all kinds of problems for the Luton fullback. The winger got what he deserved in the 66th minute, winning a penalty after being brought down by the Luton keeper.
Josh Holton stepped up and converted to get one back for Oxford.
Maeson Vaughan came close to making it 4-2 in the latter stages of the game, forcing an incredible save from the Luton shot stopper.
The loss ends Oxford’s three game unbeaten run; however the side don’t have time to dwell on it, with a number of players being involved in the Under-17 Cup clash with Brentford this week.
