King Power Stadium
Saturday 24 January, 3:00pm
After two goalless draws in the opening week of his reign as Head Coach, Matt Bloomfield will be keen to see his side turn a point into three as the U’s visit the King Power Stadium for the first time.
Ticket Information
There will be no sales on the day. Collections/Duplications will be available approximately 90 minutes prior to kick off from the Main Ticket Office which is located next to the Foxes Fan Store on the North West corner of the stadium opposite the Holiday Inn.
Form Guide - Snapshot
- Oxford United: W1 D2 L2 from the previous five games. Matt Bloomfield will be happy with the team's efforts in keeping consecutive clean sheets for the first time in a year, but will now want to see his team pose a greater threat at the other end. It has been a positive start for the former Wycombe and Luton boss, and he will see this game as a good opportunity to continue his unbeaten start.
- Leicester City: W2 D1 L2 in their last five. The Foxes currently sit 14th in the EFL Championship after a mixed run of results. While they are well below where many expected them to be at this stage following last season’s relegation from the Premier League, they remain just five points outside the play-off places.
The Rivalry - A Quick Head-to-Head Check
The reverse fixture in September produced a thrilling 2–2 draw at the Kassam Stadium. Goals from Will Lankshear and a Boubakary Soumaré own goal twice put the U’s in front, but despite a strong performance they were unable to hold on for all three points.
Before that encounter, the two sides had not met since 1994, when another 2–2 draw was played out at the Manor Ground.
Meetings between the clubs have been rare in the modern era, but since their first clash in 1961, Oxford have recorded six wins and 11 draws from 28 encounters overall.
The Key Battles: Where This Game Could Be Won And Lost
- Keeping out Leicester's dangerous front line: Leicester City’s attacking ranks blend youth, energy and pace with proven Premier League experience in the form of Jordan Ayew, Bobby Decordova-Reid, Stephy Mavididi and Issahaku Fatawu. Between them, the quartet have contributed 17 goals and 12 assists this season, and should United secure a third consecutive clean sheet, they will have successfully shut down one of the Championship’s most potent forward lines.
- Jordan James vs Cam Brannagan: The 21-year-old Welsh international is enjoying the best season of his career to date, with nine goals and three assists adding real thrust to the Leicester attack. Should he be fit to play, he will be a key orchestrater in the Leicester midfield. His duel with U’s captain Cam Brannagan promises to be a fascinating one, with the skipper now beginning to rediscover his best form after a spell on the sidelines. As so often, the midfield battle is likely to be decisive, and this particular matchup could prove pivotal in determining the outcome.
- The impact of Jamie McDonnell: After coming off the bench to make his debut in Tuesday night’s draw with QPR, the Northern Ireland international could be in line for his first start this weekend. Leicester favour threading passes through the lines and feeding their wingers to cut inside and shoot, so the disruptive edge to McDonnell’s game could be key in halting Foxes attacks before they develop. A player known for his energy and appetite for winning every challenge, McDonnell will be eager to show the U’s faithful exactly why the Club was so keen to secure his signature this month.
Team News From Both Camps
Oxford United will continue to be without long-term absentees Tyler Goodrham, Nik Prelec and Jamie Donley.
After signing for the Club on Tuesday, Jin Woo Jeon could be in line to make the matchday squad for the first time this weekend.
For the hosts, the main concern is the fitness of Jordan James. The Welsh midfielder was forced off after 41 minutes against AFC Wrexham on Tuesday night with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Former Spurs midfielder Oliver Skipp is also a doubt after being forced to withdraw during the second half of the Wrexham game with illness. Harry Winks will continue to remain out of action after suffering an injury in November that has seen him out since, while Aaron Ramsey, Victor Kristiansen and Harry Souttar also miss this weekend's game.
Opposition Focus: Leicester City's Unpredictability
1) Relegated from the Premier League last season, the Foxes began the campaign as bookmakers’ favourites for promotion. However, the 2025/26 season has proved far more turbulent than anticipated, with inconsistent results leaving them in the bottom half of the table. The summer appointment of former QPR boss Martí Cifuentes to succeed Ruud van Nistelrooy was widely viewed as a shrewd move, but his side have yet to find consistent form under his stewardship.
2) Only Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion have conceded more goals than the Foxes in the Championship this season, while Leicester have managed just three clean sheets, the joint-lowest in the division. Their issues are clear: goals have not been hard to come by, but defensive frailties have repeatedly undermined them. A constantly changing back four in recent weeks, largely driven by injury, has only added to their problems at the back.
3) Leicester have managed back-to-back victories on just two occasions this season, underlining their inconsistency. However, they have won their last two home matches, both by a 2–1 scoreline, and will view this as a great chance to make it three successive home wins.
Jin Woo to break through?
South Korean international Jin Woo Jeon arrived in OX4 on Tuesday and was introduced to the Kassam crowd at half-time against QPR. Signed from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, the talented playmaker is eager to make his mark in England and help steer Oxford United away from relegation trouble.
Having scored 23 goals in 59 appearances for his previous club, Jin Woo clearly has an eye for goal and thrives on taking the ball to his feet and running at defenders. Equally adept with both feet, he could provide the creative spark in attack that helps the Yellows boost their goalscoring output in the second half of the season.
He could be set to make his debut this weekend - a prospect that is sure to excite the supporters.
