Nine goals for the under-18s
While Tom Craddock's four goals against Accrington caught all of the headlines, youth team striker James Roberts went one better, scoring five times in his side's 9-2 demolition of Hereford United on Saturday.
Roberts' five-goal haul, with strike partner Jermaine Udumaga scoring twice, and Jacob Hughes and David Lynn also finding the net, gave United's under-18s their second win in the League Cup and a sixth straight win in all competitions.
Coach Chris Allen told www.oufc.co.uk:
"It seems strange to have to say it given the scoreline but we started the game very well and that was the important thing. We were very good in the first half and scoring early goals set the tone for the whole game.
"We got a bit sloppy at the start of the second half and conceded two goals through two defensive errors, which made it 6-2, but the lads got back on track and got a further three goals. It could have been more as well because we put them to the sword and really could have gone to town. But it was a brilliant performance and all credit to James for the way he took his goals. Jermaine Udumaga scored two and set up four as well, so those front two did very well for us but it was excellent from everyone in the team."
