Oxford United Women Sign Haynes and Timms

Key duo return to the OUFC Women side

10 July 2019

Oxford United Women are delighted to announce the return of Club Captain Lauren Haynes and last season’s Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Season, Georgia Timms.

23-year-old Midfielder Haynes joined the club in January 2016 from Aston Villa Ladies. With a huge amount of experience behind her despite her age, Lauren started her career at Arsenal Centre of Excellence and represented England at under 15 and 17 level, competing in the European Championships. At 16 she joined Bristol Academy as part of their WSL 1 side, going on to play for England under 19s.

The battling midfielder was an almost ever-present figure for United in 2017/18 in a season which saw United recover from a slow start to finish 4th in the league and pick up silverware winning Oxfordshire Women’s Cup in April.

Forward Timms came through the club’s youth system and scored a number of important goals last season and her performances saw her pick up two prestigious trophies at the club’s end of season awards.

Manager Liam Gilbert told us:

“It’s great to have Lauren and Georgia back again for another season. Lauren has so much experience which was vital for us last season with such a young team. Georgia really grew as the season went on and it’s testament to her workrate, performances and what she does for the team that she was recognised by both the players and the fans last season. It’s great to get them both announced as the first ones back and pre-season is starting to take shape now as we look to build a strong team for the season ahead.”

Lauren Haynes said:

“I’m really happy to continue my time at Oxford. It’s a club which means a lot to me, both as a player and as a person. Last season was a real positive for me. Coming back from injury and playing so many games in a tough, physical league was a fantastic achievement personally and to see the club challenging at the top of the table after the turmoil of the summer was really pleasing. I’m looking forward to the season ahead where we can really build on that and keep the momentum going”
