Will Vaulks Awarded Championship Player in the Community Award

Will Vaulks

Oxford United’s Will Vaulks has been named the EFL Championship Community Player of the Year in recognition of his outstanding work in suicide prevention.

Will has been recognised by the EFL for his exceptional commitment to suicide prevention and mental health awareness across Oxfordshire through the Club’s Can We Talk? campaign.

Throughout the 2025/26 season, the campaign has continued to grow, delivering vital workshops in schools, workplaces, army bases, and universities across the county.

Working alongside suicide prevention charity Baton of Hope, the initiative also hosted a powerful workshop at the Kassam Stadium in March, attended by 150 people. Each participant received essential training to support ongoing awareness and education.

Key initiatives delivered as part of the campaign include:

  • Suicide prevention and mental health workshops for supporters
  • Accredited, in-person training for staff and players
  • First football club to sign Baton of Hope’s Workplace Pledge
  • Collaboration with the EFL and PFA
  • Introduction of a wellbeing ‘check-in’ app for Club staff

He will be honoured at an awards event at the House of Commons on Wednesday 15 April, with the overall EFL winner set to be announced on Sunday 19 April.

Oxford United congratulates Will on this well-deserved honour and is proud to stand alongside him in advancing mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
