Oxford United Women return to FAWNL Cup action this Sunday with the visit of Tottenham Hotspur PGA to the MGroup Stadium (2:00pm kick off).
Last time out in this competition, the U’s travelled to the Eyrie and beat MK Dons 5-0 to go top of the group. Unfortunately, United were unable to carry this form into the league, going down 1-0 at Cheltenham Town last weekend.
Spurs’ first cup game was at Luton Town, where they lost 4-1 and finished the game with nine players. The Hatters took a 3-0 lead into the half-time break and scored their fourth from a penalty in the second period, with Tottenham’s Cruz Fuller-Fagan being dismissed for the foul. They pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining before another red card was shown to Heidi Hills.
“We want to win the game and make sure we progress in the cup,” manager Sam Rose said after the Cheltenham defeat. “We have a bit of a point to prove.
“We’ve had some good conversations with the group about what we’re up against this season in terms of us making a bit of a noise about wanting to be promoted and moving to the new training model. It’s been evident over the past couple of weeks that no one’s going to give us anything and we’re going to have to earn absolutely everything.”
Make sure you bring the noise and the colour to the game and cheer United on, knowing that a win will see the team through into the knock-out stages of the cup.
Oxford United play Luton in the final group game at the MGroup Stadium on Sunday 28 September (2:00pm).
