Oxford United Under-21s beat Chesterfield 3-0 to make it four undefeated in league football.
Mo Missanga got the ball rolling for United with his first half opener, goals then came from Aaron Lacey and Mubarak Abolade in the second half to close out a comfortable win for Oxford.
A young side took to the field for the Under-21s on Tuesday afternoon, with Lacey taking the captain’s armband from Aidan Elliott-Wheeler, who has departed out on loan.
It was a bright start for Oxford with Missanga registering his third goal in as many games for the Under-21s. The winger opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a tidy finish, nestling into the bottom corner.
Jack Lee came the closest to getting us two ahead in the first half, however his effort from close range was blocked off the line.
Oxford dominated the first half of proceedings and continued to do so in the second 45.
It took them ten minutes to get their second and make it 2-0. The corner routine eventually paid off for United with Lacey rising to meet Harrison Bradney’s cross and heading home for his first of the season.
Bradney nearly got himself on the scoresheet minutes later, however the woodwork had other ideas and the score remained 2-0.
Chesterfield tried on numerous occasions to get into the game, however, couldn’t get past the resilient Oxford defence.
Abolade then wrapped things up in the final minutes with a smashing finish at the back post for Oxford’s third.
A comfortable win and a fifth clean sheet in seven games for the Under-21s makes it ten points from four fixtures in league football.
