Oxford United Players Visit and Donate Vital Funds To Indonesian Orphanage

Oxford players visit orphanage

It was more than just football for Oxford United’s Men’s First Team squad in Indonesia, as the players came together to donate vital funds to a small orphanage in Jakarta.

Done so completely out of their own good nature, on the final day of the tour of Indonesia, six of the team visited the orphanage to meet the children and deliver thousands of pounds in cash, a fee which was also matched by the Club.

The visit follows on from a coaching clinic delivered by the Club and five players at the beginning of the tour, where 120 children experienced a special day learning from Oxford United’s players and coaches.

20 of the children in attendance on that day were from the Rumah Yatim Dhuafa orphanage in the capital city, with players Stan Mills, Sam Long, Will Vaulks, Marselino Ferdinan and Ole Romeny handing over a donation of money, sports equipment and signed memorabilia.

So touched by the experience, the players decided to pull together  to raise their own funds to donate to the orphanage, and before leaving Indonesia, they ensured they made time to visit for themselves and meet the kids who are supported.

Vaulks, Mills and Marselino were joined by Matt Phillips, Hidde ter Avest and Jack Currie at Rumah Yatim Dhuafa, to see first-hand how their money will impact the children.

The orphanage was founded in 2009 and currently supports 59 kids aged from six to 15 who are without guardians or in some cases have been abandoned. The small site in Jakarta can only sleep seven children, with the rest supported through their education, clothing and more.

The money raised is a vital lifeline for the orphanage, one of many in the capital and across the country.
