Oxford United… 0
QPR… 0
Oxford United earned back-to-back clean sheets for the first time in a year, as Matt Bloomfield’s side earned a 0-0 draw at home to QPR.
United had the best chances again, and didn’t give the away side an opportunity, as it keeps Bloomfield’s unbeaten start as Head Coach going.
It was a positive start to the day with Jin Woo Jeon signing for the Club from Jeonbuk in South Korea. He didn’t make the squad, but there was a place on the bench for new recruit Jamie McDonnell.
Eight minutes in and the first chance of the game fell to a surprising source in Sam Long, the one-club man striding forward onto a cut back on the edge of the box and stinging a shot just over the bar.
It was United again with the next best effort coming on 17 minutes, when Stan Mills pulled a shot from 25 yards just wide.
The pressing from the United frontline was impressive, but overall, the game lacked any real quality.
QPR came back into it, and had a couple of troubling efforts from the left side, the most promising coming from Paul Smyth inside the area which was deflected wide.
Matt Bloomfield made a change at the break with Brodie Spencer on for Michal Helik, and in the opening 10 minutes the intensity did rise, without the final part clicking.
There was a long delay as Esquerdinha had to be stretchered off for QPR, in what looked like a nasty injury.
A minute later, Sam Long had the best chance of the game, forcing Joe Walsh into a stunning save. The ball dropped to Long in the box, and on the volley, he smashed it towards the top corner, but it was tipped behind.
On 73 minutes, Stan Mills had a huge chance to make it 1-0. Myles Peart-Harris done well to keep the ball alive down the left before playing an inch-perfect cross to Mills eight yards out who couldn’t keep the ball down and sent the shot over the bar.
United continued to push for the winner, but couldn’t get the elusive goal. Another point on the board to push United forward, with Leicester City away next.
