Meanwhile, it was a much quieter month for the academy with only a handful of fixtures played across the under-18s and under-21s, but the academy too secured some positive results and scored some great goals.

Goal A: Fiki Adesanya vs Exeter

The Under-18s’ 3-2 victory over Exeter City at the Training Centre was rounded off in style by a brilliant goal from winger Fiki Adesanya. The move began down the left-hand side, with the ball played into the path of the onrushing Kesh Purcell. Showing excellent awareness and composure, Purcell darted across the box before producing a delightful backheel flick into Adesanya’s path. The winger needed no second invitation, smashing a right-footed effort into the roof of the net from 12 yards to cap off a superb team move.

Goal B: Kate Wiseman vs AFC Bournemouth

The trip to Bournemouth was identified as the perfect test of Liam Gilbert’s side following their impressive start to the season. Facing one of the other standout teams in the Women’s National League, United knew that a victory would send out a real statement of intent.

And they certainly made their mark. Just 15 minutes into the contest, the Yellows produced a sensational team goal, involving every player in the build-up and showcasing the quality of football they have become renowned for. The move began with goalkeeper Beth Wookey, as United calmly played their way up the pitch, retaining possession and working the ball through the team with real composure.

The move eventually culminated in Jenna Legg delivering a cross into the box, where midfielder Kate Wiseman arrived at the far post to meet it with a superb first-time volley into the bottom corner.

Goal C: Cameron Brannagan vs Notts County

The skipper delivered when it mattered most, producing a moment of quality late on in the victory away to Notts County. With United leading by just a single goal heading into the closing stages, Luka Lynch drove forward with the ball on the counter-attack, initially appearing short of options as he looked for support.

Having already put in a tireless shift in the middle of the park for almost 90 minutes, it was remarkable to see Brannagan steaming down the right-hand side, having covered almost the entire length of the pitch to join the attack. Lynch duly picked him out, and Brannagan made no mistake, smashing a first-time finish into the far corner to seal all three points for United.

Goal D: Luka Lynch vs Mansfield Town

Luka Lynch, on loan from Premier League side Aston Villa, truly announced himself at Oxford United with a breathtaking finish away to Mansfield Town. Making his first league start for the U’s, Lynch picked up the ball just outside the box on the right-hand side before cutting inside and unleashing a wicked, curling left-footed strike into the far top corner, leaving the Mansfield goalkeeper with absolutely no chance.

It was Lynch’s first senior professional goal, and what a way to open his account. A moment of real quality that will live long in the memory and, quite possibly, take some topping!

Goal E: Holly Manders vs AFC Wimbledon

With the Yellows trailing by a goal and down to ten players away at AFC Wimbledon, they needed someone to produce a moment of magic - a piece of outstanding individual quality to drag them back into the contest. Step forward Holly Manders, and not for the first time this season!

With an hour on the clock, it looked as though the team's unbeaten start to the season was in serious danger of coming to an end. However, Manders had other ideas. From a free-kick in a dangerous position on the right-hand side, Sophie Quirke rolled the ball into her path before Manders unleashed a thunderous left-footed strike from 30 yards, sending the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.

It was a quite sensational equaliser, and one that sparked the Yellows into life. With momentum firmly on their side, they went on to complete a remarkable turnaround, securing a 2-1 victory despite their numerical disadvantage.

Goal F: Tyler Andrews vs Billericay Town

In the under-21s friendly against Billericay Town in October, midfielder Tyler Andrews scored a beauty to set the team on their way. Picking up a loose ball on the edge of the Billericay box, Andrews took the ball down on the chest and smashed a left-footed half volley into the bottom corner past the keeper.
