Nik Prelec Looks Ahead To Millwall Clash

Nik Prelec

After Oxford United’s gripping 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, OUTV spoke to Nik Prelec ahead of Saturday’s game against Millwall.

Slovenian international Prelec, who is on loan from Serie A club Cagliari, has had 10  appearances for Oxford and has one goal under his belt away against Bristol City since arriving this summer.

On the recent performance of the team, he said: “I think we did well. I think we could have got more out of the Wrexham game though, but, yeah, six points out of nine, I think, is really good, and now we have to keep building on that.”

He talked about his performance and said: “I’ve started to get used to it now, it's getting better and better, so I hope it's gonna keep improving.

“I mean, I'm not the normal striker I’d say, I like to play. I make a lot of space and chances also for my teammates. I've brought the team something that not a lot of strikers do.”

He touched on being one of the strongest strikers in the league, saying, “This came naturally, as when I was younger, it was the same. It's Mother Nature, I would say. I got lucky with the strength.”

And on how it helps his play, “I mean, it depends on the defender, the way they play, if they like to come close, if they stay away. It depends on the game, you just see the way the defender plays, then you try to adapt to it.”

On Prelec’s partnership with Will Lankshear, “I have always said that I prefer to play with another striker, because I feel like it's easier then to cause problems for the defence.

“We're doing well because we're both physical, we're both strong, we're both fast, so they have a lot of problems with us.”

Talking about the upcoming home games against Millwall and Stoke City, he adds, “We’ve had some strong performances at home, and we've shown that it's tough to beat us.

“I feel like we've shown that when teams come to the Kassam Stadium, it's going to be a tough game for everyone.”
