Matt Ingram Signs New Oxford United Contract

Matt Ingram

Oxford United are pleased to confirm Matt Ingram has signed a new deal to remain with the Club.

Ingram joined United last summer from Hull City, playing four times across all competitions, and established himself as an important part of the goalkeeping unit.

With almost 300 appearances in English football since making his debut for Wycombe Wanderers in 2010, the 31-year-old has provided crucial experience alongside 25-year-old Jamie Cumming.

Signing on for next season and beyond, Ingram is delighted to remain at the Club.

He said: “We have a very strong group of goalkeepers here, and I have loved coming in everyday trying to push myself and the rest of the team.

“I said on day one that I wanted to come in and drive the standards each day and bring experience to help us in the league. We achieved everything we set out at the start of the season, and I now want to continue to push us further forward.

“The strength of the team is in the unit and togetherness, particularly in our department, and it’s for this reason that I want to stay and continue to give my all.”

Head of Football, Ed Waldron, said: “Despite Jamie playing each week, Matt never dropped his standards last season, showing himself as one of the most professional and committed goalkeepers in the league.

“Matt is normally the first person in the building every morning, and his character and presence in the dressing room has been so important to help drive the standards.

“He is an outstanding goalkeeper who has not only driven the standards but raised them with his performances each day.

“We are thrilled to have Matt on board as he is an important figure in our group. This ensures we continue to have a strong department of goalkeepers to cope to cope with the season across league and cups.

“Matt’s new contract comes after long-serving goalkeeper Simon Eastwood also extended his stay for the new campaign. This deal is another important piece of business for us, as it means we keep a robust team to help push Jamie on, and nurture young talent such as Jacob Knightbridge and our Youth Academy prospects.”
