Matt Bloomfield has arrived at Oxford United and is clear on what he wants to do.
Speaking to OUTV shortly after being announced as the new Head Coach, the 41-year-old quickly spelled out exactly what he will instil into the group when training begins on Monday.
He said: “Organisation and structure. I want the team to be at the forefront of everything that the players do, they'll know that's what I stand for.
“They need to be disciplined in their work, but I want the players to enjoy what they do as well.
“I think that there's a real, real freedom that comes with enjoying your work. I want our attacking players to really feel a freedom at the top of the pitch.
“But I also know that there's going to be games where we're going to have to be really organised and disciplined in our shape because of the league we're playing in and the opposition.
“But I want us to be purposeful with what we do in and out of possession to make sure we try and create attacking opportunities as much as we possibly can.
“Key is hard work, integrity, understanding your role within the team, being courageous when we’re out on the pitch.
“I want to build connections with the players as quickly as possible because I know that when you have strong connections you can push people further.
“And I want to build a connection with our supporters because I know how much of a proud Football Club this is, and I know what it stands for.”
Bloomfield has shown an ability to build strong and hard-working teams who can demonstrate an aggressive approach and attacking style.
As he prepares to take training for the first time on Monday and meet the Oxford United supporters with back-to-back home games, he says he is ready to get to work.
He added: “The work has started already. I will never shy away from a challenge, and I want to get in the fight. I’m here and full of enthusiasm and energy.
“I want to connect with our supporters, and I want them to enjoy their team.
“It’s up to us to get to work as quickly as we can, execute what we believe, and build a connection so they can be proud of their team.”
