Jenna Legg says it is a huge honour to be named Captain of Oxford United Women for the 2026/27 season.
“I’ve been at the Club a little while now and I’ve got a lot of love for the group here so it’s a privilege to be given that extra bit of responsibility,” said the midfielder.
“I’d like to lead by example, I always work hard on the pitch and give my all for the team and hopefully that spreads within the group.
“We’ve got so many leaders and good characters, and the goal is clear within the group so hopefully I can just be a bit of a driving force for that.”
It’s been an eye-catching start to the campaign for United with four wins from four without conceding a single goal. Liam Gilbert’s side are top of the WNL Southern Premier Division on goal difference, with AFC Bournemouth and Fulham also enjoying winning starts.
“We couldn’t have asked for much more to start the season.
“We’re very much aware that it is just a good start and there’s a long season to go, but we’re playing some really good football and the girls are just really enjoying it.
“There’s a real contagious energy within the group. We’re all working really hard for each other and we’ve got that bit of fight, that bit of edge about us.”
Legg is in her fifth season at Oxford United, having come through the ranks at Chelsea before representing Brighton & Hove Albion, Charlton Athletic, Watford and Amazon Grimstad. The 29-year-old scored her first goal of the season last weekend in United’s 5-0 victory over Cheltenham Town.
Liam Gilbert’s side will now return to FA WNL Cup action, when they host MK Dons at the MGroup Stadium on Sunday. The competition is competed in by clubs from the third and fourth tiers of women’s football, plus Professional Game Academy sides. United got off to a winning start in the group stages last week, with an emphatic 8-0 win over Abingdon United.
“Sunday’s another opportunity to get out there and really give teams a hard time.
“The girls are passionate about making the MGroup Stadium our home and we’re on a good run there, so long may that continue.”
Kick off is at 2:00pm at the MGroup Stadium on Sunday 6 September. To get your tickets, please click HERE.
