The Football Journey of Will Lankshear

Will Lankshear

Will Lankshear is another top-level addition to the ranks at Oxford United ahead of the Championship season opener against Portsmouth on Saturday.

Signing on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the season, the 20-year-old striker arrives with a superb goalscoring record at youth level with club and with England.

Here, we take a look on his journey so far and what the United fans can expect from their new number 27.

EARLY CAREER

Born in St Albans, Will began his career on the red side of North London, playing with Arsenal until the age of 15.

Leaving Arsenal, Will made the long journey away from home to join the youth ranks at Sheffield United. Across 43 appearances with the Blades, he scored 38 goals, showing an incredible goalscoring record which started to grab the attention of other clubs.

In 2022, he joined Tottenham Hotspur, where he has plundered more goals for the youth sides at an electric rate.

GOALS, GOALS, GOALS

After the 38 goals at Sheffield United in 43 games, Will didn’t stop there when he joined the white side of North London.

Missing much of his first season through injury, in his second season with the Under-21s he scored 25 goals in 27 games, with one hat-trick and six braces. Two goals also came against senior opposition in Colchester United and Cambridge United in the EFL Trophy.

An England youth level, the goals continued to come. After scoring on his first three appearances for the Under-19s, he also bagged his first Under-20 goal in a 4-0 win over Germany.

FIRST TEAM ACTION

Last season would see the striker get his chance in the first team environment at Tottenham, making his Premier League debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham in December.

The big moment came in the November however, when Will started and scored in a UEFA Europa League game away to Turkish giants Galatasaray.

In January, he moved to West Bromwich Albion in the hope of more regular football but could made four starts in what was a difficult second half of the season for the Baggies.

Working at Tottenham has provided plenty of learning opportunities for the 20-year-old to train alongside international players such as Son Heung-Min, Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and many more.
