Oxford United Head Coach Matt Bloomfield discussed the importance of the fans support ahead of today’s game against Watford.
With five games remaining in the Championship season, United Head Coach Matt Bloomfield understands the high stakes heading into the meeting with Watford.
After four unbeaten home matches, and last season’s home win against Watford, this is an exciting opportunity for the team to secure three valuable points to help boost their position up the table and out the relegation zone.
A win against Watford on Saturday would be Oxford’s tenth of the season and after the 2-2 draw against Portsmouth on Monday, Bloomfield is keen to maintain the side’s momentum as the team heads into the final stretch of the campaign.
Speaking on Thursday the Head Coach said: “The performances have been good, and we have to keep chasing that.
“We are where we are and we have to make sure that we go back out on Saturday afternoon ready to try and get as many points as we can on the day.
“We want more. We want more points. We want to get ourselves above that line and we're hunting that.”
With the table so tightly contested, each result will carry added significance. Bloomfield acknowledged this and how the team was keeping focused, discussing the importance of keeping a ‘level’ head when it comes to the upcoming results.
He added: “It's really important that we're level. We can't get too high and too low. We have to make sure that in the good moments we're prepared against getting too carried away.
“Because you know there's so much riding on it and everyone cares so much. We all want the best outcome in every single day, every single game.
“So, of course, we know that the stakes are high at the moment and we're carrying that weight of expectation, that responsibility, but we relish it and we're looking forward for more.”
Bloomfield also highlighted the role the fans support provides for the team, discussing how the backing of the home crowd could be vital for Oxford’s success as they look to stay in the Championship.
“Our supporters are really crucial, every voice, every person is absolutely vital to us to achieve what we want to achieve.
“So, I want to say thank you for the support they gave us over the weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing them all there on Saturday.”
