PREVIEW AFC Wimbledon v Oxford United

Oxford take on the Dons. Full match guide

9 January 2024

Oxford United head for AFC Wimbledon tonight with a place in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy quarter-finals at stake.

TEAM NEWS
United are without Stan Mills who suffered a serious knee injury at Coventry which will end his season.

Youngster Aidan Elliott-Wheeler comes into the group in place of Mills with Richard McIntryre, Zaide Took-Oxley and Louis Griffiths again travelling - left-back McIntrye was on the bench on Saturday for the first time while forward Griffiths was part of the travelling party.

"We'll have a mixed squad, some of the senior players and some of the youngsters again" Des Buckingham told iFollow "but we will name a team which we believe can put in a performance that gets us through to the next round.

"We have players coming back from injury and we have had a run of six weeks where we have played a lot of games so we have to get the balance right but we will do and it's a game we are looking forward to."

OPPOSITION
Manager Johnnie Jackson expects his side to come up against a determined United side this evening:

“They will be looking to bounce back, to put things right" he told Wimbledon's official site. "With where they are in the league, they may have one eye on that. It’s hard to second guess these games really.

“I look back to the Portsmouth game and it was difficult to think about how strong they were going to go. Whatever team Oxford put out, I’m sure they’ll be looking to win but so will we. We’ve proved it against other League One teams – we’re up for the challenge.”
