The “Remembering Joey” Game

The U’s celebrate the life of an Oxford United legend against Plymouth

13 February 2023

Oxford United will remember club legend Joey Beauchamp when Plymouth Argyle visit the Kassam Stadium tomorrow evening, and this is your chance to help raise funds for his family.

When the U’s face the Pilgrims on Tuesday night it will have been just under a year since the passing of Joey, a moment that shocked Oxford United and the wider footballing community.

As well as being one of the club’s greatest ever players, Joey was first and foremost the proud father of daughters Jessie and Bella.

Both the club and his family are raising money in Joey's memory which will be used to support the future and wellbeing of his girls and also to leave a true legacy for future years by also contributing to the club‘s charity Oxford in the Community to be used specifically for a Joey Beauchamp foundation in support of mental health.

£1 of every ticket sold for the game including Season Tickets and 50% of the matchday 50/50 draw prize pot will be donated to Joey’s daughters and the Joey Beauchamp foundation.

The club is encouraging all supporters in the stadium on the night to stand to applaud Joey on the 11th minute signifying the famous number 11 shirt Joey wore for the U’s.

During the warm up, Oxford United players will be wearing ‘Beauchamp 11’ shirts and will then be joined by 11 representatives from the academy who will walk out with the starting XI in the same ‘Beauchamp 11’ shirts before kick-off.

Just before the start of the game, Joey’s daughters Jessie and Bella will walk the match ball onto the pitch and deliver it to the match officials, and this is your opportunity to show how much their dad meant to each and every one of us.

We are calling on the Yellow Army in attendance on the night to bring your singing voices and to paint the Kassam yellow to recognise Joey Beauchamp as being #ForeverYellow.

The game tomorrow night is during the school half-term so we encourage as many families and young people as possible to head down to OX4 to celebrate and remember the life of one of Oxford United’s greatest ever players.
