It’s Women’s FA Cup week for Oxford United Women

The U’s take on Chesham United Ladies in the First Round Proper

10 November 2022

Oxford United Women host Chesham United Ladies in the First Round Proper of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Kick off is at 2 PM on Sunday the 13th of November and tickets will be priced as follows: £6 Adults / £3 Concessions / FREE U16’s.

The U’s go into the Women’s FA Cup with plenty of momentum, having won three games on the bounce without conceding, and remain unbeaten this season in all competitions.

“We have found our winning form again and we are excited as a coaching team with some of the football we have been playing. We had lots of new faces at the start of the season, and some even newer ones of late, but we are finally getting to where we know we can be. Once the other few signings are fully up to speed, we’ll feel we are in a really good place” said Manager Liam Gilbert.

“Everyone loves the FA Cup. It’s a special tournament and we are over the moon to have the first tie at Court Place Farm. The atmosphere is always great, but we are hoping it will be even better for our first game in the FA Cup this season. A cup run will only add to the momentum that we are building here, and we look forward to playing a new side in Chesham who have had some good results of late” added Gilbert.

It’s not a far journey for Chesham, who travel from Buckinghamshire to Court Place Farm. The Generals currently sit 8th in the FAWNL South-East Division One, having won two and lost three. They too have won three games on the bounce, scoring seventeen goals in that time.

Chesham United have also been in the news recently, as Taskmaster’s Alex Horne was appointed as Director of the Club.

Carly Johns netted her sixth goal of the season last time out and is hungry for more this weekend.

“It’s a great side to play in for an attacker, not only because we create so much going forward, but the front line all enjoys the hard work as well. We’ve scored a lot of goals pressing high and that feels like an extra reward for us,” said Oxford’s number nine.

“The FA Cup should be a special game and we’ll approach it as we have every game. Chesham will bring a new challenge but it’s one that all the squad are ready for having prepared well this week.”

If you can’t make it on Sunday, the U’s have a midweek league fixture away at MK Dons Women on Wednesday the 16th of November.
