Boss Karl Robinson returns to the dug-out as Oxford United welcome Morecambe to the Kassam Stadium in Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday.

The U’s boss has missed three games after testing positive for covid but was back to take training today and told iFollow how happy he was to be back.

“I feel fine now. I was a bit tired after today’s training but that’s to be expected and I am really looking forward to the game now. I want to thank everyone on the staff and all the players because they have all been brilliant and taken on that little extra bit of responsibilty while I was away, but that’s why we employ good people who want to help others.

“I watched the three games. The first one I was exhausted after, but that was the early days when I was struggling with the illness. On Saturday it was much better and then by Tuesday night I was just frustrated not to be there in person because I felt fine. But I’ve come back today, loved being on the training pitches again and can’t wait to get back to the match on Saturday.

“I like that we have offered discounted tickets, that great and I hope a lot of fans come back to see us on Saturday because we are playing well at the moment. It’s not going to be easy, Morecambe are well managed; we did a coaching course together a while back and I’m pleased to see Stephen doing well there.

“But we are in good form at the moment. Sam Winnall is still struggling with a calf injury but Ryan Williams is a lot better after illness so we will wait and see if he is fit enough to be part of the squad. I thought a lot of players did really well in the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday so that gives me food for thought.

“It’s good to see players come in and take their opportunity: Simon Eastwood has done really well but we always knew he would. Sometimes it’s not easy when a goalkeeper gets injured but it shows the value in having two very strong keepers in the squad.

“Basically we have the same squad to pick from that has won the last three matches and now it is up to us to keep that going before we get a little break from the competition and play in the FA Cup. Hopefully we can get another win and the fans go home happy with the performance and with the result.”
