Two first half set-plays cost Oxford United dear as Blackpool left the Kassam Stadium with three points after a 2-0 win on Saturday.

“I thought we started poorly for 15 minutes and didn’t quite get going” Karl Robinson said “but then I thought the players gave everything, as they always do. I don’t think Blackpool were much better than us; two set pieces cost us and that’s something we are usually very good on. Our own delivery from set plays was atrocious and we missed big chances at key moments.

“It was never going to be like Tuesday and you can nit-pick on some of the fine details but it was almost the same team that did well in the previous game and I just think some players under performed. Not a lack of effort and not tired legs- Blackpool played on Tuesday as well. So today it was just set-plays- were we really organised, did we really understand what was coming?

“It was flat in here today. It felt like after the Lord Mayor’s show and when we start badly the fans would usually get us going again. We have utilised that away and won but today the two teams stopped each other’s strengths and we needed that extra energy from somewhere.

“But it’s only three points. Go and win at Northampton on Tuesday and you are on the coat tails of the play-off teams again. It’s not like we are miles away, we are still in the mix, so it’s important now that we get over this and go onto Tuesday.”
