Bash's Marathon Effort

United legend raising funds for Special Effect

8 March 2019

If you are out and about on the roads of Oxfordshire over the coming weeks then keep an eye out for Oxford United hero Steve Basham who is currently upping his training ahead of the London Marathon.

‘Bash’ remains part of matchdays at the U’s where he welcomes guests and acts as a matchday ambassador. Steve, who now works in accountancy for our friends at the M Group is currently putting the finishing touches to his training regime.

“It is tough” he told us this week “but I did my 13 mile run last week and am just pushing that up a little over the next couple of weeks. It’s a different sort of fitness but I’m starting to feel the benefit and I spoke to Chris Short, United’s Head of Sports Conditioning and he kindly invited me in to see if he can help with the final preparations.

“Karl Robinson was good as well- he got everyone to sign one of my playing shirts and one for Special Effect who are a brilliant local charity who I am raising funds for. I will put them on auction soon and with the sponsorship I hope we can raise a decent amount of money to help Special Effect.”
