Chris Wilder on Aldershot
Chris Wilder was honest in his appraisal after his side drew 1-1 with Aldershot on Saturday. The U’s were in front until the very end of the match and after a difficult week off the pitch the Manager was pleased with his side’s effort if not the final result:
“It was a fair result. We didn’t deserve to win and I don’t think we deserved to lose.” Chris told Yellow Player.
“I think it was an unbelievably tough week for everybody. Michael Raynes got off his sick bed to play, and I thought he was excellent, Alfie Potter got a whack and came off, Tommy Craddock has not trained at all until Friday, Damian Batt is coming back after injury, and Liam Davis is coming back. We had a tough week where we travelled to Accrington and are still in the cup, travelled to Plymouth and reached the area semi-final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, and then picked up a point today.
“I’m not going to kid anybody, it wasn’t a great performance. We got our noses in front but possibly just needed that little bit of quality to get the second. Aldershot are not a mug side and in their last five away games have picked points up so I’m not shouting at my players after that. Football people know what the players have gone through and take into account that they are human beings, and will give them a little bit of leeway today.
“It’s another game that we should have gone on to win but considering the circumstances I’m proud of the players’ effort. We didn’t get a win but we picked up a point and it’s up to us to move on to the next game now. We were five minutes away from a fantastic result, but it didn’t happen and all we can do is move on to Wednesday night.”
