Ledson wins three awards at Awards Night

End of Season Awards Night at Oxford United

28 April 2018

Around 250 people were at the Kassam Stadium this evening to celebrate the season at the annual Oxford United Awards Evening.

Host Nathan Cooper introduced Chairman Tiger and Manager Karl Robinson to look back at the past season and both outlined their plans for the summer and the next campaign

After a three course meal the winners were announced for awards that recognised all areas of the club.

First to win an award was Ella Franklin Fraiture who was named as the Planet IT WSL Emerging Talent after a string of impressive performances for Andy Cook’s side. She was followed by the captains of the mens and women’s sides, Curtis Nelson and Lauren Haynes who both received awards, sponsored by Wellers, for their contribution to the Oxford United in the Community charity; the players from both sides have made well over 300 appearances to support the charity this season.

Next to win an award was an emotional Darryl Eales who won the Newtrim Club Person of the Year. This was chosen by all of the staff and players at the club and was presented to a shocked Darryl for his outstanding contribution to United’s success over the last four seasons.

The Jack Casley Young Player of the Year Award, sponsored by Tubes Scaffolding, is named after the first professional at the club and went to Ryan Ledson who also won the AWBS Andrew Knapton Supporters Player of the Year, presented to him ahead of today’s win over Rochdale.

The next award went to the Unsung Hero at the club, sponsored by Claridge Investments and was won by Terry Waite who works tirelessly to keep everything in order at the training ground, rarely courting publicity but always there to fix any problems and a worthy winner.

Guests were asked to vote for the Pennington Manches Goal of the Season and chose Ryan Ledson's goal at Charlton to give him his third award of the night while the Textures Flooring and Autotrak Golden Boot award will be presented after next Saturday’s game at Blackburn with Wes Thomas one goal ahead of James Henry.

The final award was the prestigious Players Player of the Season award and was won, to huge applause, by Brazilian left back Ricardinho.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors and our guests for what was a fantastic evening.
