Striker faces spell on the sidelines after suffering ruptured achilles
Oxford United have suffered an injury blow with the news that Wes Thomas’s season is over after confirmation that the striker ruptured his Achilles tendon during Saturday’s win over Coventry City.
The experienced forward suffered the injury after coming on as a sub in the 4-1 win and was taken to hospital immediately where scans revealed the extent of the damage.
Head Coach Michael Appleton told Yellow Player HD.
“Sadly it’s going to be a long term injury and we will now wait and see what the specialist advises for his recovery; there are a few options. But whatever happens Wes will be out for the rest of the season.”
There was better news on Joe Skarz after he also left the pitch on a stretcher on Saturday.
“He’s OK” Michael said. “He left hospital soon after and although he had a mild concussion he was in at the training ground today. There are certain protocols to follow after a head injury like that so he won’t play against Gillingham and we will have to monitor him and wait and see before Saturday at Scunthorpe.”
