Michael Appleton speaks to Yellow Player HD about facing Gillingham
Michael Appleton previews Tuesday’s match against The Gills
Oxford United will look to build on their strong performance from Saturday against Coventry when they face-off at home to Gillingham on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
While appreciative of the high quality of play in the 4-1 win at the weekend, Head Coach Appleton understands the inconsistency of the season so far.
Speaking to Yellow Player HD, he hopes for a strong showing against The Gills.
“We just have to make sure that we take something out of the game. There are examples where we haven’t backed results up [after a strong win]. It’s been the story of the season so far. Some things you can’t control, for example injuries have gone against us - and Saturday is another example of that.”
With regards to Saturday’s injuries, Appleton gave a heads-up on the status of Joe Skarz and Wes Thomas.
“Skarz has a mild concussion, and won’t be available for the game against Gillingham. We will continue to evaluate him for the game away to Scunthorpe on Saturday. While, unfortunately, Thomas is out for the season - he’s ruptured his Achilles.”
Joe Rothwell returns to the squad after illness while Marvin Johnson is available after the safe delivery of his baby daughter on Saturday.
