Oxford United Women in Action Tonight

30 June 2016

Top of the league Yeovil Town this evening's visitors

League leaders Yeovil Town come to the Northcourt this evening as United return to FA Women's Super League 2 action (7.45pm kick off). After going down 4-1 away to Bristol City at the weekend, the U's are looking to get back to winning ways. Being back on home soil, where United have not conceded since April, should hand the hosts some advantage, but coach Jonny Edmunds, who again takes charge of the side, is under no illusions of the scale of the task.

“It's going to be a tough ask, make no mistake about it,” he said. “They're top of the league at the moment and on a good run of form, they've got a very good squad with good experience in there. It will be a tough test, but we'll have a good look at Sunday's match, look at the goals and learn from it. We'll move on as a team and give a good account of ourselves.”

Although Oxford were narrowly beaten 2-0 at Huish Park early in the season, it was an impressive show of defensive endeavour to keep the free-scoring Glovers out until late in the game and paved the way for the three successive clean sheets that followed in the next three home games. And midfielder Lauren Haynes is confident United know how to inflict a rare defeat on the pacesetters.

She said: “We have played them before and how they play is still fresh in our minds. We conceded twice, but we held them off for 78 minutes and we can do it again, except this time we’ll nick a goal. We just need to fix the mistakes we made against them last time. We need to continue our run of clean sheets that we have had in our last three home games, with a clean sheet you are guaranteed a draw. We have been creating opportunities and we have Ini Umotong who is on top form at the moment and scoring lots of goals. As long as we are not conceding then we will come into our own.”

Kick-off is at 7:45pm and admission is just £5 for adults and £10 for a Family Ticket (2 Adults & 2 Under 16s). Get your tickets right from www.oxfordunitedwfc.co.uk. Alternatively, for just £15 you can pick up a Half-Season Ticket, which grants you access to all of United's remaining home games, including Sunday's Continental Cup clash with WSL 1 Birmingham City.
