Meades back with a brace as United win both games
United’s Development squad capped a fine evening of football with a 5-0 win over the Oxford University side this evening.
Jon Meades made the perfect return after injury, scoring twice while Josh Shama was also on the scoresheet, Ty Marsh added a late fourth and Aidan Hawtin chipped in a fifth as time ran out in a one hour game.
Meades’ first strike came in just the third minute of his comeback game as he rolled home a penalty after a handball. Shama then made it 2-0 on 23 minutes with a simple finish after taking advantage of a bad touch from keeper Ben Szreter.
Meades made it 3-0 from the spot on 42 with another penalty after the midfielder had been tripped.
With the game won United had a little fun with Chris Allen rolling back the years with a cameo sub appearance. Marsh made it 4-0 with a neat finish then Hawtin ran through and chipped in with the fifth .
Good fun but a good run-out for a young United side, with Meades looking strong on his return.
Earlier in the evening the United Women’s side also enjoyed a win over their student counterparts with a comfortable 7-1 win. A Lauren Allison hat-trick plus strikes from Helen King, Lindsay Pinker, Katie Stanley and Ella Franklin-Fraiture gave Les Taylor’s side a good result against a battling University side who scored through Tina Gough.
