Special Guest Matt Murphy

30 January 2014

Former Oxford United midfielder Matt Murphy is Saturday's guest of honour

Our guest of honour this Saturday as we take on AFC Wimbledon is goalscoring midfielder Matt Murphy.

Matt scored 55 goals in his eight years with Oxford United, from 1993 to 2001. He told us "Fitness had quite a bit to do with getting a few of the goals from midfield but they wouldn’t be long runs where you’re carrying the ball; you’d be relying on Joey or Chris Allen to get crosses in to give you the opportunity to score. We had a lot of players who were good on the break and if you could get up with them quickly then you would get opportunities like that."

You can read a full question-and-answer session with Matt in Saturday's matchday magazine, or ask him your own questions in the Exhibition Bar from 1.45pm. Matt will then be in the Lounges before the game and on the pitch at half-time. Be sure to give a special welcome to a player who wore his heart on his sleeve throughout his long United career.
