Full time report as young United side lose at the Royals
A young United Development Side were beaten 5-2 in a friendly at Reading this afternoon.Up against a more experienced Royals side, who included defender Anton Ferdinand in their team, United took the lead with a clever chipped finish from Aidan Hawtin after one of several great flowing moves from the U’s. They had further chances before the break but a Kelly goal for the home side made it 1-1 at half time and the second half was a different story as Reading raised their game
Goals from Griffin and Tshibola and two from Dom Samuel put Reading 5-1 up before a superb volley by James Roberts from a Callum O’Dowda cross made the final score 5-2.
Mickey Lewis told us:
“The first half was excellent; the Reading coaches were very complimentary about the way we played and I thought we were in control of much of it but it turned into a game of two halves and Reading scored some really well worked goals of their own after half-time.
“They are a very good side but the first half was probably as well as I have seen the Development Side play so you take the positives from that 45 minutes and learn lessons from the second."
