Shama on the mark as United take on Luton

United’s Development Squad were in action once again this afternoon as they lost 2-1 to a Luton Town development side in a friendly at the Hatters’ training ground.

United, with a side made up entirely of players aged under 21, gave youth team defender Freddie Grant a chance to impress alongside Matt Bevans, Kenzer Lee and David Lynn in defence.

In midfield Aidan Hawtin and Callum O’Dowda provided width, while Josh Ashby and Josh Ruffels were perhaps the pick of the United side with good performances in the centre of midfield.

Up front Josh Shama teamed up with former Luton Centre of Excellence player Ty Marsh and the pair were at the heart of United’s goal which opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Marsh won a header in midfield which allowed O’Dowda to pick up the loose ball and free Marsh for a cross which Shama finished well to make it 1-0.

Luton levelled after half an hour with a close-range header and the second half continued to be very close.

United might have won the game from two presentable chances which weren’t taken before the home side made it 2-1 to win the game with 20 minutes to go.
Mickey Lewis told www.oufc.co.uk

“It was good again. The boys have played really well in every game so far and the attitude has been spot on.  It was a proper competitive game, exactly what they need at this stage, and the result might have gone either way.”
